Sounds like a great idea cookiepoh. Clubsnap has this thread too I think. Perhaps you could start another thread with a more specific title for this. And lay some guidelines and duration.

Re: Ieat Xmas AGM - Registration Opened! « Result #4 Today at 12:12am »
ieat Annual General Makan (AGM): Registration is now opened!
It's Christmas time and we are going to celebrate with the biggest Ieat Makan Session ever.We are planning for 300 ieateers to come together for the first ever ieat AGM (Annual General Makan). The AGM will be more than just another Makan Session, there will be fun activities, games, entertainment, goody bags and much more. We want this to be our annual get together so that everybody can get to meet everybody to talk about everything.
As is our tradition, each year we want to use this opportunity to give something back to our community. This year we have decided to again partner the Prisons Ministry of Touch Community Services. I am sure that you all know about the Yellow Ribbon Project and I have have written about Seetoh from 18 Chefs as well as Eric from Wow Wow West before.
Last year we contributed $8844 to the prisons ministry during our 2nd Anniversary makan session. The money was used to buy Christmas presents, textbooks, stationary and provide transport for the kids to get to school. But in order to give the kids a stable future, they need their parents to be working rather than in prison. This is where the prisons ministry comes in. They start their work even before they are released by forming positive relationships with them so that when they finally get released, they have a network which can help them reintegrate back to society.
I met with Andrew (not his real name) who is now 29 years old and one of the beneficiaries of the ministry. Andrew had spent almost half his life in and out of prison for housebreaking, drugs, loan sharking and various gangster activities. Each time he got out, he went back to his meet up with his old network of friends and soon found himself back in prison again. This cycle would have gone on and on if not for the workers of the Prisons Ministry who met him in prison and became his friends. Three years ago, he was released, but this time thing are different. He had a new found faith and a whole network of new friends who helped him join a church group and stay out of trouble. Now he is the proud owner of four handphone shops and had recently became the father of a beautiful baby girl.
Thankfully for Andrew, there are people who cared enough to volunteer their time to help rescue him from a life of crime. So, I applaud Pastor Stephen and his team of workers (some of the pastors were ex-cons themselves) who work tirelessly to bring hope to those that society often ostracize. I hope that our ieat community can do our part to contribute to their work amongst the inmates.
Here are the details for the AGM:
Date: 18 Dec 2009 Time: 7.30pm Venue: Roland Restaurant, Marine Parade Multistorey Carpark, Level 6 Price: $50
Menu: 1. You Tiao and crispy baby squid combination starter 2. Fish Maw Soup with prawn meat 3. Tao You Prawn 4. Steamed Patin fish with special sauce 5 Signature Tau Hoo with salted egg and prawns 6. Original Chilli Crabs ala 1950's 7. Ee Foo Noodles 8 Orh Nee with Pumpkin
This menu includes the original Chilli Crab invented by Roland's mother 50 years ago as well as the original deep fried baby squid and you char kway which also have their origins at their restaurant. This menu is priced at $450 per table as we are getting quality stuff like large Sri Lankan Crabs and white Patin fish. However, Roland will only be charging $250 per table and donate the rest to charity. So for the $50 you give, you are getting $45 worth of food and contributing $25 to charity!
We will also be doing an auction as in previous years to raise some more money. So we are now looking for sponsors for items for the auction. We are also looking for sponsors for door gifts and other items which we can use for prizes.

liverpool: General consensus among my friends in the know is that Minori is about Hanabi standard. Loses to Ikoi and Irodori, which are the current top contenders for that price range.
Had the alacarte buffet at Irodori (Riverview Hotel) last night. Good quality food. Sashimi was really fresh. Had many many orders of the teppanyaki style enoki mushrooms wrapped in a slice of beef. Their tempura is also worthy of mention. Light batter, and many kinds of vegetable pieces.
Restaurant is much more spacious than Ikoi across the road. Definitely go on a weeknight when the restaurant won't be as packed, resulting in better service (more frequent orders). Might come back in a few months after I've recharged my Japanese craving. Haha.
Totally agree with you. Irodori is now the best japanese buffet for me.
Psst heads up!
I've got vouchers from Irodori from a recent visit. 3 for the price of 2. Valid for one month only.

Re: Ipoh Ho Fun « Result #8 Yesterday at 11:46pm »
For me, the best ipoh hor fun still remains a restaurant in Geylang off Lor 21, next to Chiang's. It is now defunct. They had the nicest stock and accompanied with shui gao soup. Servings quite petite. Still remember trying almond beancurd for the first time there.
Anyway, I can now settle for Changi Village's Wing Kee or Hong Lim's. Competent enough =)
Nice experiments Liverpool. I've been playing with the different modes and levels the last few weeks. Hundreds of pixs. I actually tote around 2 cameras! So glad to be returning home tomorrow after so long. Will share them soon.
...thanks cactuskit!...looking forward to your pics!

Re: How to make ORH NEE « Result #12 Yesterday at 11:27pm »
I have tried making this using the below method. That was at least 15 years ago but I think I still can remember the steps.
Before getting the yam, just tell the vege uncle/seller that you are using it to make yam paste. Somehow, they know and will choose the right one for you.
For the yam paste: 1. Cut the yam into cube and steam it till soft but not soggy. ( remember to put on gloves when cutting yam lest you get a bad itch) 2. Mash it all up 3. Heat the wok, pour oil ( not too lil like its for stir fry. slightly more.) and fry the mashed yam when the oil is heated. (Have to keep "flipping" gently so that its evenly cooked)
For the "sugar sauce" to pour over 1. heat up some water in a sauce pan with pandan leaves and put in rock sugar till its all melted.
To serve 1. just put some yam paste in bowl, put in some cooked gingko and/or steam pumpkin and pour the "sugar sauce" over it.
This is my first time posting a recipe. So please forgive me if I am not very good at describing the procedures. I hope this helps... I cant really give any measurement cause it was all gauge .oh yes, you can also just store left over yam paste in a ziploc and refrigerate it.

Saw this kid running naked in Bugis and quickly took the shot with my S90 compact which I had in my jeans pocket. This is the kind of thing that you never catch with the DSLR unless you plan for it!

Re: Canon Powershot S90 - First Look « Result #33 Yesterday at 6:39pm »
You got natural artistic talent Liverpool! Composition is good and sky is exposed perfectly so that you can see the cloud patterns. Just have to watch out for the reflection of the glass!
Colour accent would work better if the buildings were not supposed to be grey in the first place.
In colour accent mode, you can also adjust the sensitivity of the colour accent by clicking up or down. You can see there is some red on the statue, so you should click down to get a negative value which you can see on the bottom left of the screen. What you want is the statue totally grey and the red only on the sides.

Re: Introductions - Intro yourself to the forum! « Result #41 Yesterday at 8:51am »
Hey thanks Cactuskit and Liverpool!! That's very kind of you, I didn't expect anything other than some advice!!
I'm there from 13th Jan leaving on the 20th. As I mentioned my partner is busy in the day so that's when I'm going to go wandering. Then I can report back my findings for some evening treats. I've already started mapping out where to go, but please feel free to give some must do suggestions. That's where the blog and ultimately this forum will offer great guidance.
I'm an adventurous foodie who is always keen to try something new.
I work right near Chinatown in Sydney so have gotten to know good places here. I am more than happy to offer Sydney suggestions too!
Yes Zay, its the same Oasis. After the kallang place closed, they moved to Toa Payoh. I didn't know they have a branch so near my place now at Kembangan. Love the restaurant for the piping hot porridge.
VVV, nice pictures. I'll always remember that restaurant for the first time we met with getg3, and for the thickest most yolky salted egg crabs I've ever eaten or likely to ever eat.
thanks cactus
oasis @ kembangan is actually a kopitiam cze char stall. there is a stand-alone mixed veggie rice/porridge stall located in the kopitiam itself, thereby resulting in some confusion for first-time patrons there sometimes.
Thanks, there is something with these old buildings with character and history that really helps you to relax and enjoy your meals there. Hope what remains of our old buildings will not be pull down in the name of progress.
