I haven't been back for a while. But it used to have this stall that sold Fried Rice and Hor Fun. It was one the best, and even better than most Cze Char places.

i used to study at RJC opposite the road - so here are some recommendations for ghim moh, coz we used to pig out everyday after school there - which has led me to put on so much wait - that it's absolutely incredible - but that's another story - anywae, about ghim moh:

10 good stalls
1. Char Kway Teow - overrated, d**n long queue; but the great thing is that it actaully is quite tasty - een though it's very oily - but there are alot of lard chips and the texture is rather nice - and more tasty than zion road, in my memory.
2. Jiu Jiang Shao La - roasted duck, roasted meats; one of the best - the duck is nice and flavourful and tender; the roast pork is oaky. not too bad.
3. Tong Fatt chicken rice - part of a chain, but still good; at the corner;
4. Lucky Poh Hong Kong Noodle - the noodles are of a nice springy texture - the sauce is not bad - dumplings nice and flavourful;
5. Dessert shop - used to sell very nice mango milk, as well as ice-kachang and all that stuff.
6. Ah Balling - part of a chain;
7. Jin Hua fish soup - healthy eating, but the fish is very fresh; they use mackerel if i'm not wrong
8. haha.

there are not that many good stalls ther, unfortunartely. used to have a very nice hor fun stall...but gone.

Good post! However I am a bit confused about the Char Kway Teow. First you say it is overrated, than you tell us how great it is. So is it over rated or correctly rated? :o

I love the fish ball noodle stall. The fish ball is fresh and has a certain bounce. Bee Hoon dry is my favorite. It is located at a corner, opposite the chicken rice stall.

The desert stall (about 2 stalls away from the fish ball noodle) is also quite popular.

The other stall is the chee cheong fun stall (opp the famous char kway teow). They also sell glutinous rice and great yam cakes.

Funan Weng's Ipoh Hor-Fun pretty good. What I like is that the sauce is not starchy. Their wanton mee is good too. It's run by a couple from Hong Kong...so you can imagine their wanton packs a pretty mean punch unlike our local wanton

yeah... the roast duck mentioned is nice... also with its rost pork char siew...

when i was staying in dover.. i will walk to the market... then pack the roast duck n stuff back to snack on...
while i am there... i will eat the CKT....

there is always a long queue coz the uncle fries the ckt twice...
he will fry the kway teow n mee first then set aside... then fry order by order... he uses pork lard.. u can tell him to hold back on the oil... add more lard pieces/veg n of coz add more SEE HAM.... it's shiok lar... but u cannot compare it to the bedok south stall...

well - haha - to clarify - well the CKT is good in the sense that - it's much better than the normal ones - and deifnitely comparable to the hai kee one (but its a bit different in that this one is sweeter) - and definitely like - less - hum - but its nice and greasy - but not so good in the sense that -everyone queues for it - so it really is - not that worth queeing, especialyl when you compare jiu jiang roast duck beside it.
but i guess its really nice also . just try it. hehs.

Was at GM yesterday. Tried the Fried Hor Fun w/Fish. The Hor Fun has the wok hei, and the sliced fish is very fresh. Recommended. The Hor Fun stall is located next to the Jiu Jiang Shao La. The stall sells Hor Fun and Mui Fun only.

Was there for lunch today.

Had Jinhua Fish Soup, fresh and lotsa veggies and soup has a natural sweetness so it's quite good but not out of this world.
The CKT queue was super long.....
The Ju Jiang roast doesn't look appealing to me but then I never tried so I dunno.

One pleasant find is Keng Kee (I hope I remember the name correctly) Dim Sum, think unit 01-68? - bought the char siew bao and egg tart. The char siew bao was very good. Very soft skin and char siew was moist and nice and char siew was not extraordinary red. Only that it was after I paid did I then realize that the char siew bao was a mini one and it's kinda ex from hawker at 70cents a piece. Also had the egg tart - $1 a piece which was also quite good, not soo sweet and quite flaky. Should be better if it was taken warm.
They span over 2 stalls and one is like "closed" so I suspect that their baos and such are self made.

also got some mini salted and nonya dumplings from Joo Chiat dumpling stall. Maybe I suay ku, but 1st time I see mini salted meat dumplings hehe. Nothing beats my grandma's handmade dumplings but I'm happy enough with these and the mini size is great for a kid's snack. 80 cents each. The right savory taste and quite alot of meat for a mini size.

Spotted Lee Wee otah next door and just couldn't help and bought some too :P

oh ya, forgot to ask, I spotted a western stall that serves battered cod fish fillet set at $5.50, 2 stalls away from Jin Hua Fish Soup. It looked quite promising. Anybody tried?

That's probably a prepacked battered codfish! Had it at some other place.

Surprised no one recommended the hakka yong tau foo there (only stall there)? The sauces (chilli and sweet) are superb and the garlic-ky soup (they add fried garlic ala fried shallots into the soup) is tasty ...

always sold out by mid-afternoon on wkdays and early afternoon on saturday .. have to queue but they have instituted a numbering system ... only grouse? most of the pieces are pre-fried beforehand so you might find it a tad soggy ...

Used to hope over here when having lunchtime rehearsals with SWS @ Ulu Pandan CC.

I second the Ipoh Hor Fun and the Fried fish/Beef Hor Fun and Tong Fatt chicken rice. nv got to try the CKT.

Johnson duck is overrated. Prefer Ju Jiang, though they look very unhygienic, but maybe tt's why it tastes quite good. See a lot of aunties ta paoing all the duck necks home lol.

The Char Kway Teow is not fantastic but worth a try if you're a CKT fan. But you'll have to be there by 2pm as he usually sells out by then.

Jiu Jiang Shao La, due to sky-rocketing prices of their raw products, slices thinner cuts on their roast pork and char siew. Noticed this last week when I was there for lunch.

The old skool fish ball noodle stall opposite Tong Fatt as mentioned by KayaGuU is a reminiscence of the ketchup based noodles i used to have in primary school. Moreover, the springy fishballs are handmade and that's a definite plus.

The prawn noodles next to it - both their dry and soup versions, are also worth trying.

The dessert stall next to prawn noodles stall ganers a long queue during peak hours. Love their ice jelly, ice kachang and cheng tng. During lunchtime, i used to see hordes of RJC students slurping on them before rushing back for their tutes (it might be brain food I guess...)

The Hakka ytf suggested by calamarirings is a huge draw too and it also sells out by 2pm.

I also frequent this Teochew porridge stall with simple staples like veggies and braised meats. Their fish cakes and meatballs are highly recommended. Very home-coooked taste and great for those looking for a healthy meal.

The jui kway and chai tao kway (both side by side), the handmade pau stall, Funan Weng's Ipoh hor fun and another prawn noodles (along the same row as the jui kway/chai tao kway) are worth a mention too.

holydrummer: The beef hor fun stall has temporarily ceased operations. Hope they'll be back soon.

Last but not least, the gem in this FC must be Heaven’s Indian Curry. Their putu mayams (don't know if they're still selling them) and appams are must-trys.

The stall opens from 6am till early noon - usually sells out by 1+.
