Found a gem of a place for food. Those who live in Hougang will know about this Food Centre. Was impressed with what I ate. My colleague brought me there. His parents live in that area.
This Punggol BCM is very popular. Longest queue in the whole market. Heard they just moved there less than 3 months ago. Husband and wife team.
For $5, I got a bowl of noodles, topped with mushrooms, one gai geok (I think not usually given), and braised pork (I think also not usually given too). Maybe they gave me after I spoke to them politely and told them the brew smelled really delicious. Not sure lah. :). Very yummy with lots of vinegar. The mushroom slices are braised together with the pork and gai geok.
And this bowl of soup full of ingredients. 2 big fish/meat balls, livers, mince pork etc...
And this fen chang. Very worth it right? Tasted good too.
Comfort food stall of my colleague. Selling for 30 yrs. He told me weekend very long queue. We were early (7am) so perhaps why there was no queue.
Aunty dishing up the FCC.
We had only the black FCC. Lots of chye po. Slightly burnt bits shiok.
That's our favourite lunch place. 1 Yong Tau Hu on 2nd level. 2 chicken wings and nasi lemak from Hup Lee 3 Mee Chiang Kueh 4 Coffee is good 5 Wanton Mee on 2nd level has long queue but I didnt think it was nice. 6 Hokkien Mee on 2nd level in the evening 7 Fried carrot cake from downstairs. The aunty u shot is from 2nd level I think. 8 My favourite avogado drink from corner fruit juice stall which has everything from beetroot, vegetables to gourds to fruits all with recommended cures. 9 BCM stalls.......
10 Nearby coffee shop after POSB, the famous beef noodle kway teow is superb.
11 Opposite Kovan Food Centre (we like to call garden place) is the famous Ponggol Nasi Lemak
12 My favourite nearby Lorong Ah soo hawker centre nasi padang is one of the best; their nasi lemak there sells off before you can reach there by 12.00pm
For BCM in the food centre, I only patronise one stall, the one with BLACK colour bowl. This stall is facing inside the market. The queue is long too. I love the combination of lots of vinegar and chilli there. The texture of noodles is always consistent.
The fried carrot cake would be the stall next to the famous chicken rice and pancake, nearer to the shopping centre.
This is my favourite food centre as I used to live in Simon Walk for about ten over years.
Sharing food with another human being is an intimate act that should not be indulged in lightly.
Oh, cactuskit, Mong and I were at Kovan last Sat to buy chicken for her famed chicken curry and we decided to try the Punggol BCM stall (before I saw your post actually) cos the queue was quite long. Queued for more than 30mins (we took turns. haha). But it was worth it!!! When I first started queueing (while Mong went to buy her chicken), I started chatting to the uncle queueing in front of me and asked him what was nice. He told me the meatballs are nice so we decided we'd try that. Then the auntie in front of him heard us chatting and chimed in that the fen chang is also very good so we decided to try a small serving of that too. hee. nice to make small talk like that with other people when waiting for good food. I took a pic with my phone (didnt have a camera with me that day) but after seeing cactuskit's photos, I think no need to post mine liao lah. ^_^
